Fresno State Farm Tour Field Trip coming on Friday, September 23rd

This Field Trip to the Fresno State Farm will be a wonderful educational experience geared for students in Kindergarten through 3rd grade.

Please sign up at Mountain Home School by Friday, September 16th.

Fresno State has a very strict policy that we need to follow. Please read the following carefully.

*No Children under the age of five years can attend a farm tour. The university has decided that children under the age of five are a safety risk! No strollers are allowed on property!

*Parents are required to park only in the designated farm parking and purchase parking permits to park on campus.

*Students are asked to adhere to the following rules:
-No climbing on or putting heads through fences
-No feeding animals
-No running
-Absolutely No petting, unless instructed to do so by the tour guide
-No throwing anything at any time
-No sandals, visitors MUST wear closed-toe shoes

Cost: $2.oo for each student attending farm tour
Please pay in advanced to Melissa. Parent chaperones are free.
Additional costs will be parking permits ($3.00 required) and ice cream (optional).

Schedule for the day:

8:45 Meet at Fresno State in LOT 'Y' (pick up map and packet at Mountain Home School)Parents MUST purchase a Parking Permit for the day ($3.00).
Permits may be purchased at dispensers or at the Police Department on campus.

9:00 Fresno State Farm Tour

11:00 Bring your own picnic lunch to eat at O'Neill Park

12:00 Visit Fresno State Market. Ice Cream available for purchase

Program Flyer: Constitution Day 2011: Powers of the President

FOR:  Education: Grade(s): 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12

WHEN:  September 16

TIME:  Start time:  11:00 AM PST

            End time:   12:00 PM PST

NUMBER OF STUDENTS:  40 Maximum

TEST:  If the connection TEST to the Ulysses S. Grant National Historic Site in St. Louis does not work, I will let you know three days before the actual event.

  Arrive 15 minutes early.  The program begins right at 11:00 AM PST 

  Because of the grade level content, young children attending would not be advantageous. 

Program Length

Description: The 11:00 AM PST program will focus on the President and international issues. Our scheduled panelists of political scientists, Presidential scholars, and Presidential advisers will be able to provide great insights into the questions above and your students’ questions as well as we discuss the powers of the President. Viewers will also hear directly from President George H.W. Bush and President William J. Clinton through video messages created specifically for the program. The program will air from the Ulysses S. Grant National Historic Site in St. Louis, Missouri.

Program Format:

Pre-Program Information—The Constitution Day Study Guide prepared by The Missouri Bar is available as a download with this web exhibit if you enroll for our program. It is also available for anyone’s use at www.mobar.org in the Educators’ section under Constitution Day. The guide will include Constitutional issues to consider, questions, worksheets and other activities designed to get your students thinking about the issues that will form the focus of the program.

Program Order—The videoconference program will consist of the following segments. Student questions and comments will be welcomed throughout the program.  This program will focus on Presidential powers in the foreign policy arena. A finalized program agenda detailing the specific powers to be explored in segment 2 below and specific examples of decision-making referred to in segment 3 below will be sent to schools upon their enrollment in the program. 1. Welcome and Introduction—Student groups and experts will be introduced and welcomed to the program. 2. Powers of the Presidency—This section of the program will explore the Presidential powers enumerated in the Constitution and the historical background and debate for determining those powers. 3. Process of Presidential Decision-Making and Implications of Presidential Action—This section of the program will look at historic examples of Presidential decision-making, processes used to make those decisions, and implications of those decisions on the separation and balance of power between the three branches of government as well as on the nation as a whole. 4. Summary and Closing—We’ll summarize the major Constitutional implications of the program’s discussion and close the program.

Objectives

Students will be able to:

1. Explain the purpose of Article II of the United States Constitution.

2. Evaluate and defend the role of the President in the American Constitutional System.

3. Explain how the executive branch has evolved since 1787 and the implications of this evolution.

4. Compare and contrast the executive branch of George Washington’s presidency with the present day presidency.

Wild Waters Park canceled 6/6/11 but rescheduled for Friday, August 19th, 2011

Our field trip to Wild Waters Park is cancelled this Monday, June 6th due to an unfavorable weather forcast. It is rescheduled for Friday, August 19, which is the first week back to school!

Those of you who have already paid will be credited for the new date. If you didn't sign up and would like to join the fun, you may sign up next week or beginning August 1st.

No skiing tomorrow March 7th, join us instead for the Ocean Assembly

Based on the weather predictions for tomorrow, we are canceling skiing for March 7th. Badger Pass is requesting that we give them 24 hour notice if we cancel so we had to make a decision today. Badger also said that if you choose to still go skiing tomorrow on your own that they would not give the group rate of $14. We do not know if they would offer you any other deal if you came up tomorrow but you might mention to them that you are with our school.

On a side note we would like to let you know that Mountain Home School is hosting an exciting ocean assembly tomorrow and we still have spots open. The most space is for the 9:30 and 11am spots. If you have further questions feel free to call the school. So once again, skiing is canceled for tomorrow but we hope to see you at the ocean assembly. Thank you and have a great evening.

Signups have started for Mountain Home School Charter ski program. Our first day of skiing is January 10th with payments due Wednesday, Jan 5th. To register your child to ski you must turn in all paperwork by December 3rd. We are also in need of instructors. Click here for more information.

Art at the Fresno Metropolitan Museum (all ages) Fieldtrip Nov. 6th - signup now

Skip and Joanie have reserved Friday, Nov. 6th from 9:00am - 10:30am to visit the Met and see:

• The Art Books of Henri Matisse (rare & engaging works from some books he illustrated)
• Marc Chagall: The Early Years (monochromatic etchings from a 1920's book; for older students/adults)
• Chagall for Children (designed for children K-5th although anyone may enjoy it) This hands-on exhibition gives children the opportunity to touch, draw, and immerse themselves in the world of this great artist.
• The Art of Dr. Seuss: A Retrospective Exhibition (Celebrates the artistic contributions of this noted aiuthor/illustrator's rare and never-before-seen art from the 1920's to 1990's)

There is room for 65 people and the cost is $3.50 per person which is non-refundable. You must pay when you sign up to reserve your spot. Please meet in front of the Met in Fresno at 8:45am. THE ELVES AND THE SHOEMAKER

S. for two decades!
